Dode Washington, M.D., FACOG
Dr. Washington, a native of Copenhagen, Denmark, graduated cum laude from Boston University with a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology, before attaining her Medical Doctorate from Boston University School of Medicine. She completed an internship in general surgery at Boston University Medical Center and her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center in New Your City, NY.
Dr. Washington relocated with her husband, Rev. Joseph E. Washington, and their two daughters to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2002. In March 2003, she cofounded Coastal Carolina OBGYN, LLC and has been providing obstetrical and gynecological care for the women in the Grand Strand area ever since.
Moving towards a more holistic approach, Dr. Washington recently completed 300 hours of acupuncture training by Dr. Tsun-Nin Lee at The Academy of Pain Institute in San Francisco, and has now expanded her practice to include acupuncture. By the summer of 2015, she will be certified to offer bio-identical testosterone and estrogen hormone pellet therapy, prompted by the demands from her many patients.
Dr. Washington is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of The American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, American Medical Association as well as the South Carolina Medical Associates. She holds licensure in both New York and South Carolina.
Dr. Washington is bilingual in Danish and English, and has knowledge of French, German, Swedish and Norwegian. She loves to travel the world, and to try new cuisines and is a past competitor with the Horry County's Dancing with the Stars.
Joye E. Fordham, M.D.
Dr. Fordham was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. She spent time in Atlanta, Chicago and Memphis for her education, but always knew she would end up back in South Carolina. She feels very blessed to have the opportunity to work in a group with such a great reputation in the Conway area. While in medical school she became very interested in womens health and decided very early on that she would pursue a career in obstetrics and gynecology. She met her husband, Dr. Felix, also of CCOBGYN, while in medical school in Chicago. They keep themselves busy with their son, Olu and their beagle, Duke. Dr. Fordham is a gourmet chef and enjoys exploring new restaurants with her husband. She is interested in adolescent and first-time gynecological visits, minimal invasive surgery and high-risk obstetrics. She never takes it ligthly when patients put their pregnancies, gynecologic care or any other issue in her trust.
Dr. Fordham is Board eligible.
Felix Akinbote, Jr., M.D.
Working at CCOBGYN is the realization of a dream Dr. Felix has had over the past 12 years. Starting in college at The University of Georgia, Dr. Felix knew he wanted to be a doctor and furthermore a doctor that delivers babies. At Loyola Strictch College of Medicine in Chicago, he not only discovered OBGYN was the field of medicine for him, but also met his beautiful wife Dr. Fordham. They completed their residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, where they had their son, Olu, who keeps them very busy. They also have a beagle named Duke. Dr. Felix is an avid long distance runner and he participates in the Cooper River Bridge Race in Charleston, SC each year. He is especially interested in high risk pregnancy as well as minimally invasive gynecological surgery. Dr. Felix says, "My patients are special to me because I know they have multiple other options for providers in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area, but yet they chose to come see me. Therefore, I treat them with dignity and I'm careful to listen to their thoughts and concerns".
Dr. Akinbote is Board eligible.
Sonya Harden, RN, BSN, CNM
Sonya Harden joined Coastal Carolina OBGYN in the spring of 2011 as a Certified Nurse Midwife. A Kentucky native, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Kentucky University and a Masters of Science Nurse Midwife Degree from the University of Cincinnati.
Sonya has become an integral part of the team of providers at CCOBGYN, and she is proud to be part of the OBGYN practice voted Readers Choice Award three years in a row. She cares for and delivers many of the obstetrical patients, and now has a following of her own. The patients love her down to earth and easy-going attitude. She will lead our team in adopting Centering Pregnancy Care in the spring of 2015. She has provided clinical instruction at Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Berea College and is sought after as a clinical instructor in Horry County for midwifery and nurse practitioner students.
Giving back to the community, Sonya leads our Take Control classes, which is a free-of-charge teenage pregnancy prevention program open to all girls from the age of 13-19.
She has received the prestigious Heart of Saint Joseph Award and has been named as a top 100 Service Provider.
Melinda Gould, CNM, MSN
Melinda (Mindy) Gould, CNM, MSN joins Coastal Carolina OBGYN as our second Certified Nurse Midwife beginning in May 2016. Mindy received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Phoenix in 2002 and her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Utah in 2005.
A native of Columbia, MO, Mindy is excited to bring her skills to CCOBGYN, joining a prestigious team of providers focused on providing the best care for each individual patient. She's traveled extensively, including international adventures in Central America and a month in Vietnam for an international adoption. She is conversational in Spanish and applies her experiences with multiple cultures to her approach with patients.
A natural educator, Mindy taught hypnosis for childbirth for seven years in Utah. She's passionate about helping patients understand all of their choices for both gynecological care and childbirth options. Her goal with expectant mothers and families is to help them create and follow a birth plan that best meets their needs. Her extensive experience in natural childbirth techniques compliments the other holistic treatments available at CCOBGYN, including acupuncture, massage, therapy services, and the Centering Pregnancy Care program. Mindy says, "I feel privileged to be able to help each family have the kind of birth experience they are looking for – whether with medication or natural. Few moments are as special and significant in life as being with a family for the birth of a child and placing that child in their arms."
Mindy enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, ages 8 and 10. Having just recently moved to the area (though her husband is from SC originally), the family is looking forward to exploring all of the fun things to do and see in the Grand Strand.

Our team consists of Registered Nurses, Practical Nurses, and Certified Medical Assistants. They represent numerous years of experience in the medical field and are specialized OBGYN caregivers. Billing and Insurance
We participate with many different insurance plans and will file for reimbursement. It is your responsibility to know the details of your health insurance plan with regard to copayments, referrals, and percentage of coverage.
We require that your copayment and any applicable deductible or coinsurance to be paid at the time of your visit. In addition to cash and checks, we also accept VISA, MasterCard, and American Express. Please call our billing and insurance department at 843-349-0100 x237 if you have questions regarding your coverage.
Billing for laboratory procedures: Many of our laboratory procedures are billed separately from your office visit or procedure. You could receive a laboratory bill from LabCorp. Please call the number on that statement directly with any questions.
Coastal Carolina OBGYN strongly urges you to be knowledgeable of what your particular insurance plan covers. This will ensure that you will be fully aware of what your personal financial responsibility rendered by our providers will be. Please be aware that the relationship is between you and your insurance company. If we process your claim and do not receive payment, the cost then becomes your responsibility. If you believe that your insurance company should have paid for our services, it is your responsibility to pursure them for payment. We will be happy to assist you with any documentation you may require to support your claim.
